Barbara Helen Shiflet

It is with great sad news that the Shiflet family announces the passing of Barbara Helen (Wright) Shiflet. She has joined her “Knight in Shining Armor” her husband the late Jackie E. Shiflet. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on October 29, 1933, one of six children born to Clarence and Maude Wright in Bloomington, their family included Mary Corbin, Charles Wright, Sara Jean Norman, Beverly Smith, and David Wright. She met Jack E. Shiflet who gave her the nickname “Foxie” because he always said she was really good at out foxing him and he really had to work hard to get her to go with him. They built their forever home in Bloomington and raised 3 children; Kevin E. Shiflet (Martha Smith), Kimberly Anne Shiflet and Lisa Shiflet. The children have many wonderful memories of growing up close to Clear Creek School and had many fun times with neighborhood kids. All 3 children married and soon the Shiflet family grew with four grandchildren; Melissa Honeycutt (Justin), Joshua Shiflet (Melanie), Megan Hendricks (Jeremy) and Emily Olsson. Every birthday, holiday, and special occasion was always spent at Nana and Papaw’s house. They were very fortunate to have wonderful, loving, grandparents. The next generation came; first was Savannah Nicole Honeycutt, Vanessa Alaine Honeycutt, Kenley Beth Hendricks, Parker Chase Honeycutt, and the newest family member, 5-month-old, Hagan William Hendricks who all called her Gannah. Mom enjoyed feeding all wildlife, birds, deer, and skunks. Every stray cat was guaranteed a good meal. She was a kind-hearted soul and we will dearly miss her. Mom is leaving behind a very special niece who she loved like her own daughter, Victoria Lynn Roudebush. A special thank you to Dr. Carrie Davis and her staff who went above and beyond for our Mother. As for as other Dr’s we have been seeing over the course of this past year there will be no thank you’s as they did not help our mother at her time of need. Dr’s need to read their oath over and over because we truly believe they do not follow it in today’s healthcare system. A graveside funeral service will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Monroe County Humane Society who our parents have always given to over many years.
