Dan Bill Callahan

Retired Brigadier General Danny Bill Callahan passed away Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 in his home in Bloomington, Indiana. He was born in Bedford, IN on November 7th, 1943 to Juanita Mae and William Robert Callahan. He graduated from Shawswick High School and the University of the State of New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Administration. Danny enlisted in the Indiana National Guard on December 1st, 1963. He then served the next 38 years with dedication and honor to the United States Armed Services acquiring the rank of Brigadier General. He also served as Program Manager for the General Electric Corporation in Bloomington, IN for 38 years. He had devout dedication to family, community, country and faith while achieving a long listing of unassuming accomplishments and honors including but not limited to: The Legion of Merit Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Indiana Distinguished Service Medal, Indiana Commendation Medal, United Way President of Monroe County, Girl Scouts of America Bloomington Tulip Trace Council President, Girls Inc. Man of the Year Award, and the Indiana Sagamore Banks of the Wabash Recipient Award. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and several close relatives. Danny is survived by his loving wife Melissa Eades Callahan, his brother Terry Lee Callahan, his aunt Doris Pierce, his son Troy Callahan and girlfriend Roxane Kerr, daughter Trisha Callahan and husband Jason, niece Jennifer Wilson and husband Derick and their children Jordan, Drew and Haleigh, grandchildren Stefan Callahan, Alexis Beahan, Ashton Okes, Halle and MacKensie Callahan, JT and Sabina Garcia and 2 great grandchildren Ashlyn and Mason. Also, in-laws, Mark and Sharon Eades of Frankfort, IN, Mark (Gaetana) Eades, Jr of Elkhart, IN, Dr. Luke (Shannon) Eades of Bloomington, IN, and Lynn Eades of Carrboro, NC with several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed many activities such as golfing, bowling, softball, working in the community and charitable events. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and valued this above all. Special Full Honor Military Graveside Funeral Services will be provided by the Military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit at Valhalla Memory Gardens on Wednesday, February 15th at 1 o'clock p.m. Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting with arrangements. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to a charitable organization or honorary military organization of your choice.
