Dorothy M. Wampler

Dorothy M. Wampler, 96, of Ellettsville passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at Stonecroft Health Center surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 21, 1919, to Jasper and Gertie (Haywood) Hasler in Greene County. She graduated from Scotland High School in 1938. She went on to graduate from Indianapolis Central Beauty College and had an early career as a beautician. She married Robert E. Wampler on Dec. 28, 1940. They made their home in Ellettsville and raised a family of seven daughters and one son. Dorothy was a hard worker and made a living cleaning for many area homes and doctors’ offices. She is survived by her daughters, Darleen Robinson, Jyme (Jerry) Crichfield, Dixie (Joe) Naughgles, Darby (Ken) Hite, Debbie (Mark) Smock, Bea (Dale) Martin, Patty (Bud) Grow; son, Bob Wampler (Erin); brother, Leland Hasler; sister, Betty Dean; sister-in-law, Lillian Swift; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Wampler; her parents; brothers, Jim, Frank and Kenneth Hasler; sisters, Bernice Foster, Bea Chron, Carrie Daniels and Kathleen Fiscus; son-in-law, Kenton Robinson; granddaughter, Rinda Grow; and great-grandson, Joshua Kenton Robinson. Dorothy was very active in her community. She was a founding member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Ellettsville Fire Department. She was a Pink Lady at Bloomington Hospital. She enjoyed working at the Richland-Bean Blossom Community Store. She worked many years at the Monroe County Festival. She was a member of the Reeves Club and a 50-year member of Lizzie Rebekah Lodge 413. She held many state and local offices and was the inaugural Rebekah of the year in 2007. She was awarded the highest award, the Declaration of Chivalry. Special recognition to Kathy Malicoat and Lora Scott for their loving care. A special thank you to Southern Care Hospice Services for all of their care and support. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Southern Care Hospice Services or the Kidney Foundation. Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at the funeral home, with John Baker officiating. Burial will be at Presbyterian Cemetery in Ellettsville.
