Janet Lou Olsson

Janet Lou Olsson, 80, of Ellettsville, loving wife, devoted and beloved mother and grandmother, friend of many passed away June 5, 2016 at her residence. Born March 3, 1936 to William Forrest Figg and Geneva Lou Figg in Stinesville, Indiana. In the fall of 1951, she met the love of her life, Bennett Franklin Olsson and they were united in marriage on June 21, 1953. Janet graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1981. Extraordinarily proud with unbridled love of her family, Janet relished family gatherings, picnics, and travel-especially forays to hot sandy beaches. At home, she found time to pursue pleasures in cooking, gardening, sewing, golf, music, playing the piano; and was an avid supporter of her children. She was the last depot agent at the Monon Railroad. Janet was active in the Ellettsville Parent Teacher Association, Band Booster President, Tidy Homemakers Club, Monroe County Extension as a 4-H leader, and the United Methodist Women's Group member. Janet's interminable spirit, youthful enthusiasm, good nature, and indomitable will, lives with the joy of her laughter in our hearts forever. Eternal be her memory. Surviving relatives include her husband, Bennett Franklin Olsson; six children, sons, Jeffery Bennett (Cherie), Douglas Brian (Anita), Alan Lee (Becky), and Phillip Len (Juli); daughters, Debra Lu Ferree (George), Wendolyn Janel Natalie (Anthony); 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Survived by her two loving sisters, Norma Jean Fisher and Sara Jane Peterson, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Woodrow Figg and Paul Figg. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 1:00-5:00 at the Ellettsville United Methodist Church with services immediately following. Cremation is to follow.
