Margie Peggy Gooldy

Margie “Peggy” Gooldy, 80, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 at her home in the Ellettsville, Indiana area. Margie was born on Dec. 23, 1932 in Lawrence County, Ind. to Riley O. Elkins and Lela B. Elkins. She was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Mendel (Mary) Spear, Donald (Nancy) Elkins, and Ronald Elkins. She is survived by sisters Maxine (Lloyd) Anderson, Millison “Sis” (Ray) Younger, Elizabeth (Kenny) Hancock, and Patricia (Chuck) Swisher. Margie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack Gooldy. They were lifelong residents of the Ellettsville area and she leaves behind a number of good friends and acquaintances. Margie also is survived by her four children: Mike (Lana Vierdag) Gooldy; Marilyn Gooldy, Teresa Barber, and Brad (Leslie) Gooldy. Margie was proud to have 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She moved with her family to a farm on McNeely Street in 1941 and attended Ellettsville schools. After her marriage to Jack in 1953, she was a busy homemaker who enjoyed a variety of family activities such as sewing, cooking and “making a family.” She participated in, and provided a huge boost, for all of her children’s school activities at Ellettsville schools, from first grade Valentine’s parties to high school plays and sports banquets. She also loved to write. Margie was a longtime member of the Monroe County Fall Festival organizing committee and served as a volunteer in a variety of activities for many years. She also was a member of the local Rebekah Lodge, Homemakers Walk A Lot Club, Sweet Adelines singing group, sang in the church choir, served as a Girl Scout leader and assisted with 4H. Jack and Margie are members of the First Baptist Church in Ellettsville. Margie’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the many area nursing homes that provided the care that enabled her to keep returning home many times over the last three years to enjoy her home and family. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to the excellent care she recently received at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. A celebration of Margie’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Ellettsville First Baptist Church, 115 S. Sales St., Ellettsville, IN 47429. at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Villanova officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 until time of services. Cremation is to follow.
