Russell G Lindsey

Russell “Russ” G. Lindsey of Ellettsville passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital at the age of 63. Russ was born in Greensburg, IN on October 23, 1949 into the home of George Raymond and Gloria Nadine (Pugh) Lindsey. He was a graduate of Indiana University and was involved in the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He a was a very active member in the fraternity. Russ served as the President of Pi Kappa Phi, President of Interfraternity Council at IU Bloomington and more recently served as the Alumni Treasurer of the Alpha Psi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at Indiana University- Bloomington. Russ proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Award, Republic of Vietnam Service Award, and the Navy Commendation Award. He was a member of the state and local chapter of the American Legion. He worked as a Site Acquisition Specialist for Randstad Engineering in the Indiana and Ohio district and was a Real Estate Broker. Russ was an avid IU sports fan but also gave his support to the Cubs, Bears, and the Colts. He used his love of sports to coach youth baseball for 19 years and passed that passion on to many children in the community. He developed his players to grow to be better men. He enjoyed driving his Nissan 350Z convertible, golfing and loved the outdoors, spending many nights sitting by the fire. Russ volunteered at the Interfaith Winter Shelter. He attended St. Charles Catholic Church as well as the Evangelical Community Church. Russ is survived by his children, Aaron Lewis of Bloomington, Kyle Lindsey (Melissa Vargas-Lindsey) of Chicago, Meghan Mann (Jared) of Bloomington, Blakely Lindsey (Ashley) of Fishers and Daniel Lindsey of Fishers; girlfriend, Joy Lee Kivett of Plainfield; former wife, Connie Lindsey of Bloomington; sister, Linda Campbell (Ed) of Fruitland Park, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Nelson Pugh. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Cremation is to follow.
